rewinding time to 3 Sep 2015... it was the regular gynae visits and i was at my 38th going to 39th week of pregnancy. i haven't felt any signs of labour yet, so i expected everything to just go smoothly and i could go for a nice lunch after the check-up.
Elaine, the clinic assistant/nurse, then took my BP for me, while i was watching news on their screen showing CNA. I think it was some news on hydroponics in schools.. or was it election news? hmm maybe it's both. anyways, i got a rather high measurement, which i can't remember already.. think it was around the range of 15x/9x? so Elaine told me to take a rest before she takes a second measurement. also had my urine dipstick test taken in the meantime.
i felt totally normal, but the second BP test yielded similarly high results. i did feel some additional numbness in my legs in the past few days though, but i attributed that more to the heavier me and baby taking a toll on my legs and hence the pins and needles every now and then. but anyway, soon it was my turn to go and see the gynae.
actually the visit started very routinely, with Jasmine asking me how i was, whether i had been feeling any contractions (and the answer is no..). hence being at almost 39 weeks, Jasmine offered to check if my cervix was dilated at all so that we could preempt and have a better idea of whether baby was going to arrive soon already or was it still some time later.
wah and the check was painful sia! but zero! zero dilation - my cervix was totally closed and Jasmine said that seems like baby was not coming out yet. but then she turned to the computer and saw Elaine's notes on my blood pressure readings, and seemed a little worried. she then proceeded to take my blood pressure again, this time using those traditional meters with the mercury tube going up and the doctor having to press press press on a ball to increase the pressure.. like this one.
FWAHT?!!!! so i went from chill, baby's not coming yet to ok QL now pls prepare u will be a mummy in a few hours time within like a few seconds?! my mind was in a TOTAL BLANK. YW can totally attest to it. i was lost. i didn't know what to do hahaha.. i was totally stunned.. like vegetable. oh i must have looked like a brocolli there and then. suddenly so overwhelmed. the moment is here. i'm finally really gg to be a mother. while life has definitely changed while carrying my boy with me for 38 over weeks, the real challenge is now here. i'm not sure if i'm ready for it, but like i said in the past, i probably never will be or never will know if i am until i just plunge into it. so many emotions, so sudden, so shocked. stunned.
anyway i dunno what i was thinking, i turned around and asked YW.. tmr.. u free anot? u got work to do? and he gave me a *WTF are u talking about?! work?* face and i guess the rest's history. so we just exited the consultation room and Elaine helped to prepare us for admission, which included doing some CTG monitoring for around 30 minutes and some other paper work and alot of random thoughts inside my head there and then i wasn't sure if i really knew what was going on around me liao.
then i looked at my HP and saw energizer's LINE message to check on my availability for board games session that weekend... and i remembered i just replied her "No, cannot. I DELIVERING TMR."
LOLLL. jin epic. what a way to spread the news haha.
and while the CTG monitoring was ongoing i also texted my sisters and told them about it... i was just too excited i needed to get it off. and i telling YW i was very nervous. and told him i want to have a good lunch. 我要去吃大餐。hahaha. and when i finally exited the clinic to go back, i rang my dearest mummy up and told her.. and she was sooo excited! she just kept saying 很好,早点生很好。 although i was like 有什么好? haa.
and we proceeded for lunch... at Alexandra Village where i had this claypot laksa haha. always wanted to try and since i won't be able to eat such sinful food for awhile i decided to indulge. quite good leh. and of course accompanied with the avocado milkshake which i forgot to snap a pic of. so.. yah that's my 大餐 for you.
